Tiffany Trenda will be exhibiting two small prints and a new video “United States Election 2016” as part of the Designer Violence series. The series of work that explores how violence is represented in visual culture. Using a process that combines modes of graphic design and collage, Tiffany Trenda transforms the difficult subject matter through a selection of found imagery. The artist uses a combination of historical photos, fashion spreads, and other symbolism to induce a psychological reaction. By taking an historical act of violence and repackaging it using marketing schemes of design, it makes the imagery appear more acceptable. It also shows the impact of photos and videos have on our memories. In essence, Designer Violence comments on the cultural constructs of violence and how it’s used as a form of power and manipulation through media.
