SMoCA Mix:

On Saturday, May 6, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) will present SMoCA Mix: TECH Sublime – an evening of artist-driven technology and new media.

The entire Museum will be transformed into an exhilarating, immersive experience showcasing how artists are harnessing the power and creative possibilities of technology. Tickets are on sale now for this annual fundraiser that is always fascinating and always a great party.

United Kingdom-based Squidsoup’s virtual enviornment Submergence, which will take viewers into a space that changes in real time according to their movements and positions, using up to 12,000 points of suspended light.

LA and New York-based new media artist Tiffany Trenda, who uses a 3-D printed suit and technology to engage with visitors and sync their heart beats to hers in the performance work, Ubiquitous States.

Nam June Paik’s 1992 work Electro-Symbio Phonics, a landmark video and neon sculpture that was commissioned by the Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture. It features three robot figures containing 61 television  monitors and four neon panels that depict symbols of human communication, technology and biology.

Synthesis Center, David Tinapple and Charis Elliot from the Arizona State University School of Arts, Media and Engineering. They will create a number oif interactive pieces for the evening.

SMoCA Mix is divided into two parts:

6-7 pm For VIPs, there will be a champagne reception on the red carpet to honor Valley philanthropist and SMoCA Emeritus Advisory Board Member Dorothy Lincoln-Smith for her longtime support of the arts and forward-thinking vision. Tiffany Trenda will perform Ubiquitous States starting at 6pm.

7-10 pm All guests will see the Museum completely transformed.
